The Pine of Wonder grows between rocks on the ridge east of the Volcano Jade Pool, at an altitude of 1,012 m. The prominently bare crag forms a stand on the mountaintop, on which the four square stone pillars are of varied height and size, resembling seals, thus nicknamed “divine seals”. A pine tree aside struggles tenaciously in between crevices, yet full of vitality and vigor, hence called “wondrous pine”. An ascent up the stone support allows a broad field of vision all around, in particular the vast forest landscape. Legend goes that Xu Xun, also Xu Zhenjun, after seizing a monstrous dragon, failed to suppress it with his own treasured seals as expected, which took root and were converted in the wind into what they look to be today.
